A dental hygienist is a person that goes through training and licensing to become a professional at oral care. The hygienist is trained to detect, treat and prevent tooth decay and gum disease in patients. The dental hygienist education requirements for this job include microbiology, chemistry, anatomy, nutrition, dental hygiene and dental sciences to mention just some of the courses. Also to qualify for graduation many hours of clinical practice will have to be completed while under supervision.
